Washington County Jail Roster Overview
The Washington County Sheriff's Office runs the county jail and publishes an active adult inmate roster as a generated report. The report header reads Adult Inmate Roster Report, Washington County Jail, 15015 62nd St. N., Stillwater, MN 55082, with the jail line 651-430-7900. Each version stamps the date, time, and the count of active inmates at that moment. The roster is a point-in-time list, so the count rises and falls with arrests, releases, court dates, and transfers.
The jail also keeps an inmate information page that covers bail, visits, mail, phone, medical care, commissary, property, and release. That page is the best second stop after the roster for anything beyond a name and booking date.
For charges, a court date, or a case outcome, the roster is not enough. Those details live in the court file on MCRO or with Court Administration.
How to Use the Washington County Inmate Roster
The roster is a report, not a search box with filters. It lists every active adult inmate at the time it was generated. To use it well, open the current report and scan or search the page for a name. The steps below cover a normal lookup and the next move when the roster does not answer the question.
- Open the current Washington County active adult inmate roster report.
- Search the page for a last name, since the report is a single list.
- Note the jail ID, booking date, booking number, and days in custody for the match.
- Check the estimated release date if one is shown for that person.
- For charges or a court date, search the name in MCRO Case Search or call the jail at 651-430-7900.
If a person is not on the county roster, they may be held by the state or by the federal system. The state and federal locators below cover those cases.
Roster Search Fields
The roster report uses a fixed set of columns. There are no search filters, so the columns are what you read. The table below lists each roster field and its format.
| Field Label | Type | Notes / Format |
|---|---|---|
| Last Name | Report column | Inmate surname. |
| First Name | Report column | Inmate first name. |
| MI | Report column | Middle initial or middle name element. |
| JID # | Report column | Jail identification number; format J########. |
| Booking Date | Report column | MM/DD/YY format. |
| Booking # | Report column | Numeric booking number. |
| Release Est. | Report column | Estimated release date where set; may be blank. |
| # Days | Report column | Number of days in custody. |
| Inmate Count | Report header | Total active inmates at generation time. |
| Date/Time | Report header | Timestamp when the report was generated. |
Because the count and contents shift through the day, two reports pulled hours apart can differ.
What an Inmate Profile Shows
The Washington County roster is a summary, not a full booking profile. Many fields people expect from other counties are simply not on the public report. The table below shows what the roster includes and what it leaves out.
| Field | On the Roster? |
|---|---|
| Name and jail ID | Yes |
| Booking date and number | Yes |
| Estimated release date | Yes, where set |
| Days in custody | Yes |
| Mugshot or photo | No |
| Current charges | No |
| Bond amount | No |
| Housing or pod | No |
| Court date | No |
For the fields that are not on the roster, search the court file or contact the jail or Court Administration.
Washington County Jail Facilities
The Washington County Jail is a 228-bed direct supervision facility that opened in June 1993. It holds male and female inmates, both pretrial and sentenced. The building has laundry, a kitchen, and a medical unit with exam rooms and a dentist office, plus a transport unit that runs five days a week. The Jail Division also operates a small temporary juvenile holding facility with five beds, licensed by the state, for qualifying juveniles for up to eight business days.

The juvenile holding unit has its own rules. Juveniles charged with delinquent offenses may be held up to eight business days, not counting the day of arrest, weekends, or holidays, while they wait for a court disposition. The facility cannot hold juvenile status offenders, such as runaways or liquor offenses, unless a court has already acted. Juvenile information is private and is not given by phone except to a verified parent or guardian, legal counsel, or probation and social service staff.
The jail provides full and equal access to services for deaf and hard of hearing inmates, with auxiliary aids available free of charge. The jail's Deaf and Hard of Hearing Coordinator can be reached at 651-430-7927.
Booking Process in Washington County
Booking happens after an arrest or when a person turns themselves in on a warrant. A person turning in on a warrant should report to the Jail Division main lobby no later than 5:45 a.m. on a weekday, excluding holidays. If a court or city agency requires fingerprints through a Book in Motion or Order for Booking, the jail verifies it by email at WCSO-BookingMotions@washingtoncountymn.gov, with appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Bail depends on the time and day. From Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., Washington County bail is posted at Court Administration in the courthouse. After 4:15 p.m. and on weekends, bail is posted at the Jail Administration window. Out-of-county warrant bail can be paid at the Jail Administration window around the clock. A jail lobby kiosk also takes bail 24 hours a day, with a $1,000 limit for cash or credit and an $8.95 credit card fee.
Note: The jail does not accept bail for out-of-state warrants, and a kiosk bail payment still requires staff to verify and process the release.
Visitation Hours and Rules
Visitors must be on the inmate's approved visiting list, and staff cannot say who is on the list because of data privacy. A valid government photo ID with date of birth is required; school, work, or store IDs are not accepted. Visitors pass through a metal detector, and a visitor with a warrant will be taken into custody. The schedule below covers the main visit windows.
| Visit Type | Schedule | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| In-person visiting | Friday-Monday, 6-10 p.m. | Call 651-430-7900 to confirm it is not canceled. |
| Weekend morning visits | Saturday-Sunday, 8:30-10:30 a.m. | Priority time for families with children. |
| Families with children | Sat-Sun 8:30-10:30 a.m. and 6-10 p.m. | Children must be on the visiting list. |
| Video visitation | Through InmateCanteen.com | Must be approved; $0.39 per minute. |
Free lockers in the lobby hold phones, purses, and other items. People arrested and held overnight at the jail cannot visit within 60 days of that arrest.
How to Contact an Inmate
Mail is delivered Monday through Friday, except holidays and weekends. Staff open and inspect all mail, scan it, and deliver it electronically, while the original goes into the inmate's property. Legal mail is opened and inspected in the inmate's presence. Address mail with the inmate's full name, Washington County Jail, 15015 62nd St. N., PO Box 3801, Stillwater, MN 55082. Cash, money orders, Polaroids, stickers, and similar items are not allowed.
Phone and message services run through inmate debit accounts and InmateCanteen. Friends and family add money online, and the system carries calls plus email, text, and photos that Jail Administration reviews. Text and email messages cost $0.16 each, and a picture message costs $0.32.
Property follows its own rule. To release an inmate's property, the inmate must make a written request at least 24 hours in advance, and the person picking it up needs a valid government photo ID with a date of birth. Mail sent to a released or transferred inmate is returned to sender, so a return address matters. These small steps cut down on wasted trips to the Law Enforcement Center.
Commissary and Inmate Funds
Money can reach an inmate account a few ways, each with its own limit and fee. The lobby kiosk takes cash and credit, and an internet option runs through InmateCanteen. The table below lists the main methods.
| Method | Limit | Fee |
|---|---|---|
| Jail lobby kiosk, cash | For commissary deposits | $2.00 |
| Jail lobby kiosk, credit card | $150 per transaction; $500 per month | $8.95 per transaction |
| Internet deposit (InmateCanteen) | $300 every 14 days per inmate | $8.95 |
Medical, dental, and psychological care are available. A registered nurse is onsite on weekdays and one on weekends. Visits to the doctor, dentist, or nurse carry a small fee, and medical questions cannot be answered by phone without a signed release because of privacy law.
State and Federal Inmate Searches
The county roster covers only the local jail. People held by the state or the federal system show up in different tools. The Minnesota Department of Corrections runs a search page for incarcerated individuals, fugitives, and registrants subject to public notification.
The DOC Public Viewer covers people committed to the Commissioner of Corrections who are still under state jurisdiction in prison or on supervised release. It does not cover everyone held in the county jail.
For federal custody, the Bureau of Prisons inmate locator covers federal inmates from 1982 to the present, searchable by name or by a federal register number.
For release timing and notification tools, see the released inmates page.
